DANCING TIRED

Director: Kwame Kwakw\

FILM SYNOPSIS

Bhangra at the Alamo - the one of the biggest Bhangra competitions of the season in the United States - is approaching quickly, and Manhattan de Taare is one of the teams hoping to take home the trophy. As the event draws nearer, Dancing Tired goes behind the scenes of their preparation, showing a snapshot of their motivations, preparation, and the effort and adrenaline that keeps a competitive Bhangra team going.

DIRECTOR’S VISION

Kwame, a Ghanaian-American filmmaker and Bhangra dancer himself, built the film around authentic relationships rather than cold outreach. His vision emphasizes:

  • Feeling the Movement: He uses dynamic camera angles and movement—rooted in his understanding of the dance's internal rhythm—to make the audience feel the speed and intensity of the choreography.

  • Exploring Sacrifice: The documentary explores why performers sacrifice their time, money, and bodies for an art form that rarely pays them directly.

  • The "Manhattan De Taare": The film features the journey and experiences of the Bhangra team Manhattan De Taare, exploring the unseen commitment required to be part of a dance community.
