South London, 1974. Mary is a waitress who works the streets on the side to make ends meet. She keeps herself safe with a sharp eye, a friendly CID officer and a tub of chilli powder in her pocket. One winter night a crooked policeman cheats her, and while she’s escaping across Tooting Bec Common something falls from the sky. What happens to her there will change her life in ways she could never have imagined.
