FILM SYNOPSIS
Nika follows an aging model who finds herself losing hope in her struggling career. Financial hardship pushes her toward risky decisions when a recruiter promises a fresh start. After briefly working as an exotic dancer and being fired on her first day, she is drawn into escort work. Her first client, Dex, is a compassionate disabled veteran who develops genuine feelings for her. As Nika descends further into a darker world, she experiences psychological turmoil marked by dreams and nightmares. The film centers on her internal crossroads: whether to accept love and stability with Dex, reclaim independence on her own terms, or continue down a path that may ultimately ruin her.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Leilani Amour Arenzana envisioned Nika as an exploration of desperation and redemption. Through Nika’s descent into a "stigmatized profession," the director sought to examine the internal nightmares and mental tolls that accompany life-altering choices. Arenzana’s creative philosophy, shaped by her background in performing arts and computer engineering, focuses on finding the "beauty of love" within even the most harrowing circumstances. Her intent was to challenge viewers to see past physical facades and societal labels, centering the film on the universal human need for peace and emotional connection
