Director’s Statement

Stefan Vino-Figueroa envisioned Carl as a "Cybernetic Anthropomorphic Robot Lover" sent back in time to prevent a nuclear conflict triggered by North Korea. His creative aim was to blend retro-futuristic tropes with modern-day satire. The film explores the "fix" of a global menace through the lens of a naive but efficient robot and the sentimental, often humorous reactions of his human host. The director sought to capture the naivety and charm of 1960s television while grounding the story in the "real problem" of current international relations.
