Hidden From The Night (Winner Jury Award...
  • Hidden from the Night is an experimental documentary from film makers Jasmine Hetherington Wilkes and Adam Neale.

Mixing Super 8 and DV footage to create a colourful portrait of Brighton in the summer of 2008, Jasmine wonders how her home town sees her, and reminisces on some of her most vivid memories from growing up in such a unique place. Using herself, her siblings and characters from around Brighton she investigates the notion of self and public perception.

The film explores the convenient definitions that people place on us when they take a cursory glance in our direction, and how those perceptions are influenced by the individual city that you find yourself in. The film also looks at Jasmine’s opinions about the changing nature of Brighton and how it has influenced who she is today.

It is accompanied by a moving score from Simon Hill.

This film was shortlisted for the 2008 Channel 4 'My Home Town' competition.
