DOCUMENTARY

Any short documentary no longer than 3:30 mins or shorter than 2:30 mins that has been made either digitally or with film.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE

The Renderyard Online Documentary Festival runs from 15th to 23rd May 2010 and supports the screening of new short documentaries. The Festival is held online on the Renderyard web site. The films that are shown have been produced by drawing inspiration from personal sources and influences that allow each director to project their own reflections and ideas as new forms of visual self expression.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Renderyard is looking for Short Documentaries between 2.30 to 3.30 minutes in length. The idea is to produce an original well directed and edited short documentary that depicts and concludes a great story or subject. Explore any genre and subject you wish this is your turn to pick up your camera and create an original short documentary. The ten best selected documentaries will be placed into a new documentary channel that Renderyard is producing in partnership with Garden Thieves Pictures and our sponcer CINELAN which was originally founded by documentarian Morgan Spurlock the director of the multi award winning Super Size Me. The best films will distributed on CINELAN, Hulu, Babelgum, Snag Films, Renderyard and more. This is an amazing opportunity to show your film making talents and earn money from your work as each selected film will also be offered an exclusive broadcast and distribution contract. The Best selected documentary from the festival will also win a cash prize of $1,000.

FILM SUBMISSION RULES

1. Films should be uploaded directly to the Renderyard web site and placed within the Online Documentary category. Max file upload size is 100mb which is ideal for most 3 min films. Only send us your film on DVD if your preview is larger than our 100mb upload limit.

2. Submission Preview Format, We accept all video files that include (mpg|mpeg|avi|avi|divx|mp4|flv|mov|moov) files. For best video quality on our web site we recommend uploading Quicktime MPEG video files in H.264 with picture format 768 x 576 (4:3)

3. If Selected, Master Format Required ** Warning, all films must be capable of being delivered in Master Format to be eligible for prize money or distribution **

4. All film submissions sent on DVD format for preview screening can be in either NTSC and PAL formats and must be in Region 0. All DVD screeners must have the Withoutabox ID # clearly written on them.

5. Preview DVDs must be labelled with the film title, running time and contact information (including name, address, and phone number).

6. We accept films whose original dialogue is in either English or Spanish or other languages. Films whose dialogue is not in English must be made available with the original language and soundtrack and with clear English subtitles.

7. Deadline 21st April 2010 All film submissions on DVD must be shipped prepaid and packed in proper containers to arrive at the Film Festival office no later than the deadline.

8. Films selected for the festival will be notified by the 5th May 2010.

9. The Renderyard Online Documentary Festival will not be responsible for return shipping charges.

The filmmaker agrees to abide by the general festival rules and will allow their film to be used for all promotional and screening purposes that are directly related to the Renderyard Online Documentary Festival.

The film may be of any subject but should be a creative documentary style story. The film should be a complete film and not part of a series. All footage must not be derived from another film and it must not be a trailer for another film. All submitted films must have full copyright clearance for all sounds and images. By submitting your film to this festival and competition you hereby understand and agree to the terms and conditions listed below.

1. The film maker will have to agree to an exclusive agreement upon entry to the festival if selected for the final cash prize. The cash prize will be the buy-out fee for the licence.

BROADCAST & DISTRIBUTION

All selected films including the winning film will have to agree to an exclusive global territory content broadcast and distribution agreement with the Renderyard Film Agency and Garden Thieves Pictures. You will not be allowed to show your film with any other company or individual for a period not lasting longer than 62 months.

Term: 62 months
Territory: Worldwide

Rights: Internet, Television, IPTV, DVD, Theatrical, mobile devices, video on demand, streaming, and digital download.

2. If Selected, Master Format Required

Important, all films must be capable of being delivered in Master Format to be engible for prize money or distrbution

a. Music Cue Sheet
b. Any contracts for music for the term and territory above
c. 3 hi-res production stills/photos in jpeg or png format
d. Transcript (with timecode for subtitles, highly desired)
e. Film credit list
f. Log line (one short sentence about the film)
g. Short Synopsis (50 words)
h. Long Synopsis (up to 500 words)
i. Short Director bio (50 words)
j. Long Director bio (250 words)
k. Release forms for main subjects

DELIVERY FORMAT

Upload your film to www.renderyard.com

You will need to create an account with us and choose a user name and password. Please upload your film to the Online Documentary category.

Max file size 300mb so try to keep it low. Around 100mb is ideal for most 3 min films.

- Master: Uncompressed format, HD digital (PAL/NTSC)

- Language: English or English subtitles

- HD Footage 1920x1080 (16:9) (Alternatively 720x1280 (16:9) if 1920x1080 is not possible)

- DVCPRO HD Codec; 29.97 or 23.98 FPS

- Audio 48khz 16-bit

- QuickTime .mov file

- Audio 48khz 16-bit

- QuickTime .mov file

4. Total time with credits: Must be between 2 min 30 sec and 3 min 30 sec.

5. Rating: Any. However, PG or lower highly desired.

The film must be no shorter than 2:30 minutes and no longer than 3:30 in length. All footage must not be derived from another film and it must not be a trailer for another film.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The Renderyard Online Documentary Festival will only accept original films that have been submitted by the director of the film or for which the director has given their permission to send it. Renderyard does not hold any responsibility for the state of or damage to any of the films whilst they are held on our premises. Renderyard can use your submitted material for any promotional and advertising purposes that directly relate to the Renderyard Online Documentary Festival.
