LUX Prize 2012 competition titles announced

The European Parliament has unveiled which three European films will be competing for the sixth LUX Prize. The announcement was made during the presentation of the 9th Venice Days section of the Venice Film Festival (29 August ? 9 September 2012).

Standing out from the official selection of ten films, the three candidates for this years prestigious LUX Prize are:

Csak a szl (Just the Wind), by Benedek Fliegauf (Hungary/Germany/France)
Io sono Li (Shun Li and the Poet), by Andrea Segre (Italy/France)
Tabu, by Miguel Gomes (Portugal/Germany/France/Brazil).

Tabu, a love story that moves between contemporary Portugal and colonial Africa, received a grant from MEDIA to support its development. Last years LUX Prize winner was MEDIA-funded: Les neiges du Kilimandjaro (The Snows of Kilimanjaro), directed by Robert Gu?diguian.

The three films will be screened as special events at the Venice Days, which is renewing its partnership with the LUX Prize for the third consecutive year. The films will also be screened at the third edition of 27 Times Cinema, a project designed for 27 young film lovers ? one for each of the 27 EU Member States. Hosted in Venice throughout the festival with support from the LUX Prize, these 27 viewers aged between 18 and 25 will attend the screenings and participate in debates inspired by the topics of the films from the Venice Days and, more broadly, from European cinema.

The meetings involve directors, writers, film professionals and MEPs. Every day, a blog and a recording of the meeting will be published by the MEDIA-funded online initiative Cineuropa.org

The LUX Prize 2012 will be officially presented on 21 November 2012, during a sitting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg in the presence of the filmmakers. In addition to funding the subtitling of the film into the 23 languages of the EU and providing versions for the visually and hearing impaired, the LUX Prize will offer an incentive for the film's promotion throughout the EU.
